The way you work can have a huge impact on your creative success and a blank canvas can be terrifying! So where do you start? Here are a few pointers to help you get started.
- When you’re uploading an image just remember that the size of the file determines the quality of the picture once it’s printed. Uploading a small image may look ok on the screen but when it it blown up to 6 foot and above pixelation starts to occur. Please ensure your uploaded images are at least 1.5MB to get the best results.
- Bad design usually results from poor planning, sketching your work down on paper first is a great way to develop and get a feel for your idea.
- Above all keep it simple, if it gets complicated it could lose its impact and look messy.
- Using a small colour palette helps to keep your design co-ordinated, that way colour and design don’t fight against each other.
- When coming up with ideas try bouncing them around with another person to get another perspective on your design.
- Computers always seem to know the most awkward time to crash, save your work regularly if you’re taking a lot of time over it.
- Walk away from your computer for 5 minutes if you find yourself getting stressed by trying to get the look of your banner just right, it’ll give you a fresh pair of eyes!
- One of the most important things to remember is knowing when to stop! It’s all too easy to ‘put some cherries’ on the top just for the sake of it, your instinct will tell you when it’s done – LISTEN TO IT!
- the banner hub doesn’t have a spellchecker so always proofread your text carefully, nobody wants to celebrate a ‘weeding’ anniversary!!
- Don’t pick the first font you like, always keep in mind what fits in with the banner itself. Don’t forget that sometimes the basic fonts are the most effective.
- Think carefully, what it is about your event that will actually make people want to come? What are the unique selling points?
